Empty Bowls - Events to Raise Money and Awareness to Fight Hunger

All proceeds to benefit Cass Community Social Services

Each year Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and Cultural Center presents an event where people gather to enjoy a simple meal of soup, bread and beverage provided by area restaurants and bakeries, hear Rev Faith Fowler, Cass Community SocialServices, speak on behalf of her wonderful efforts for those in need and take home a bowl as a reminder that someone's bowl is always empty.

New this year! Sugar Hill Clay, located in Detroit's Midtown, has joined in co-sponsoring this event with their artists, students and friends creating 300 beautiful clay bowls.

EVENTS FOR EMPTY BOWLS ARE PLANNED

Friday March 15 - 5:30 - 10 p.m. Sugar Hill Clay Studio Tastefest and Celebrity Bowl Auction Evening - A smaller more formal setting.

Five midtown restaurants providing soups, beer and wine and Greek desserts. $25 minimum donation.

Sunday, March 17, Anytime from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Annual Empty Bowls event at Assumption Cultural Center located in the communities of St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods, 21800 Marter Rd.

More than 17 area restaurants donate a variety of soups for the cause.

Donors include Marchiori Catering, National Coney Island, New York Deli, South Side Grill, Park Grille, Coney Grille, Olympia Grill, Luigi's, Ernie's, Harry's -Detroit, Grecian Table, Pegasus East and Andiamo's. Bread, Assimacopoulos Bakery.

Community sponsors are ShorePointe Nursing Center and Grosse Pointe News. New Cass women's inspirational singing group will perform.
