Families today face many challenges as they strive to manage multiple interpersonal, academic and professional demands in an increasingly overscheduled and complex culture. Focusing on the inherent competencies of family members, the goal of therapy is to minimize stressors, while enhancing individual's natural strengths and reinforcing family resiliency.
Ms. Garvey has provided psychoeducation, taught parenting classes, facilitated multi-family groups and provided therapy around a broad range of develomental and behavioral issues. Treatment has focused on developing adaptive behaviors and coping skills, establishing healthy supports and relationships, successfully managing life-cycle transitions, improving communication, and resolving interpersonal or familial conflict.

About
Mary Beth Garvey, LMSW, is a licensed social worker with more than 15 years experience providing individual, group and family therapy in the private and public sectors. Receiving her Masters in Social Work at the Catholic University, Ms. Garvey went on to do post-graduate training at the Family Therapy Practice in Washington, DC. Ms. Garvey has served a diverse client population in community mental health, including children, adolescents and adults. She has been in private practice since 1997 and specializes in competency-based family therapy.
