Professionals Connecting with Professionals

Ask the Experts by The Family Center

Q. I am a physician and recently relocated my practice to the east side. I often get requests from patients for various referrals, therapists, dentists, counselors, etc. Without enough time to do the research, but really wanting to help, and needing to be confident in whom I send them to, where can I turn?

A. Patients who trust their doctors often turn to them for advice on many aspects of their lives. And for the doctors, you want to feel comfortable with the information you’re giving them. This happens in a lot of cases with relationships of trust – dentists, clergy, therapists, etc.

The Family Center of Grosse Pointe & Harper Woods can help. Its online resource listing of the Association of Professionals (AOP) members has providers' profiles listed, along with easy ways to get in touch with them directly. The Family Center also hosts a number of "Meet & Greets for Professionals" throughout the year, for a chance to network and get to know other professionals that you may be referring your clients to.

The AOP is made up of therapists, reading specialists, counselors, clergy members, facilities, attorneys, dentists, physicians, among other things. Members provide each other with referrals and provide their clients with a high level of service. At the Meet & Greet meetings they share ideas, meet new members, discuss upcoming events or activities, and simply network so that when they do need to make a referral, there is comfort in their knowledge and relationship. You do not need to be a member of the AOP to attend the meetings.

The next Family Center Meet & Greet for Professionals will be held at The Grosse Pointe Academy.
