The Meet & Greet is part of The Family Center's online initiative, Association of Professionals, where professionals can register their services on the center's Web site, www.familycenterweb.org.
"The Family Center strives to create a collective, centralized hub of information, resources and referrals for families, caregivers and professionals," said Deborah Liedel, executive director of The Family Center. "We appreciate the willingness of the Woods Library to hold the open house and the CARE professionals for their participation."
The goal of The Family Center - now in its ninth year - is raising healthy, resilient and successful young people. The center seeks to achieve that goal by working with parents and all those who interface with our youth, including school counselors and mental health professionals.
On behalf of the Grosse Pointe Public Schools System social workers and psychologists, Doug Roby, SSW and Lisa Khoury, Ed.S., said they are exited to participate in The Family's Center's Meet & Greet.
"We support and participate with The Family Center in providing education and information to parents in our community regarding a variety of mental health, child development, psychological and behavioral topics," they said in a shared statement. "The Family Center Meet and Greet is a wonderful way for the school mental health workers to directly connect with the mental health and local medical personnel in the area in order to make informed choices for referrals. It also provides a platform for the community resources to get to know us and learn how the school delivers mental health services. This common understanding then helps to promote a seamless layer of support for our students."
Incorporated in 1977, CARE (Community Assessment Referral & Education) began with the single goal of assessing the treatment needs of those suffering from the problematic use of alcohol and other drugs. Over time, additional services were added, including educational programs focused on preventing alcoholism, tobacco use and other drug dependencies; helping students who exhibit a need for treatment for drug use and/or other mental health diagnosis; and assistance to businesses. CARE also provides work/life solutions for businesses, municipalities and school districts.
"CARE is honored to partner with The Family Center and the Grosse Pointe Public Library to help inform community mental health professionals and schools of available local services, including our new office in Grosse Pointe Woods," said Anne Nearhood, CARE Community Organizer Specialist. "We are dedicated to sustaining a healthy community through education and support for our youth and families. In order to achieve this goal, health professionals and schools need to know where to find available services."
Pat McClary, Youth Services librarian at the Woods Branch, said the Grosse Pointe Public Library is pleased to work with The Family Center by serving as the host site for the professionals' open house.
"The Mission of the Grosse Pointe Public Library is to serve people of all ages by actively providing easily accessible information, materials, services and programs designed to meet the community's evolving educational, recreational, cultural and informational needs," she said. "The Family Center has a history and reputation for providing enrichment programs and information for families and professionals in our community. It is a natural partnership to offer an opportunity for our library community to access yet another informational resource that improves the quality of their professional and personal lives."
Along with meeting fellow professionals, open house attendees will learn about The Family Center and its new Association of Professionals, hear about CARE and its new Grosse Pointe Woods location and services and have an opportunity to browse the beautiful Grosse Pointe Woods Public Library.
